CORONA, California (November 14, 2018) – The Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series season came to a conclusion on Sunday with a world-record speed set in the Top Fuel Hydro division at the General Tire World Finals at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park.

Tyler Speer and Jim Richards both wound up with 1,896 points in Pro Outlaw following the General Tire World Finals earlier this month at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Chandler, Arizona. Speer, of Woodstock, Georgia, and his Georgia Outlaw wound up taking the championship by virtue of one event win and one second-place finish during the season.

Speer, who narrowly missed an unprecedented double championship after also contending for a Top Fuel Hydro title, lost in the opening round of eliminations in Pro Outlaw. Richards, in Alka-Hauler, made it to the semifinal round.

Richards had one event victory in 2018 but no second-place finishes and that gave the championship to Speer. Finishing just six points behind the pair was Shannon Beal in Split Decision 2.

A look at the other pro division championship battles:

Top Alcohol Flat: Another tight race saw Bill Miller in Party to the Max earn the championship. Miller, of Taylor, Texas, wound up 78 points in front of defending champion Tony Scarlata in Shazam with Bill Diez, in War Party, in third 86 points behind.

Top Fuel Hydro: Mike Robbins of Youngsville, N.C., in Nitro Nuts, prevailed in Top Fuel Hydro. Robbins finished 94 points ahead of Speer, in Shockwave. Jarrett Silvey aboard Speed Sports was 135 behind the champion.

Top Alcohol Hydro: Travis Tutle finished off a dominating season in the Top Alcohol Hydro division. Tutle, of Rio Vista, Texas, wound up 808 points in front of runner-up Rick Allen in Total Kaos.

Pro Mod: Another champ with some breathing room was Shawn Reed of Lake Tapps, Washington, in Pro Mod. Reed, in Top Secret, finished 236 points clear of Robb Burklin in The Pearl.

Division 1 champions: Jeff Luehring in Sucker Punch (Quick Eliminator), Jeff Swigert in It’s Complicated (Pro Eliminator), Bob Prigmore in Abracadabra (Top Eliminator), Mike Munoz in Rat Bastard (Mod Eliminator), Charles Calva in Cost Effective (Stock Eliminator), Scott Dolezal in Thunderstruck (River Racer) and Brian Marble on American Freedom (Personal Watercraft 1).

Division 2 champions: Henry Behne in Lucky Draw (Quick Eliminator), Vic Fugate in Blacked out (Pro Eliminator), GW Goff in Electro Freeze Express (Top Eliminator), Jesse James Jr. in Outlaw (Mod Eliminator), Steve Walls in Sotally Tober (Stock Eliminator), Glendon Boehme in Blackie’s Magic (River Racer) and Nate Stephenson on Dominator (Personal Watercraft 2).

Division 3 champions: Ed Anderson in Red Hot (Quick Eliminator), Justin Schmidt in Game Changer (Pro Eliminator), Barry Salsman in Amazing (Top Eliminator), Bill Miles in Krazy Kracker (Mod Eliminator), William Glisson in Southeastern Turf (Stock Eliminator), Ron Metcalf in Overdose (River Racer) and Hayden Bicknese (Personal Watercraft).

Cracker Box Pro: Jason Merritt in Turn It Loose.

Following the World Finals, Lucas Oil officials announced that the Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series was ceasing operations. The postseason awards banquet scheduled for Jan. 19 has been cancelled and championship awards and points funds will be sent to competitors in the near future.
