ATTENTION RACERS:

We regret to announce the cancellation of the Marble Falls Lakefest event.

The Lucas Oil Drag Boat Series and the Marble Falls Chamber of Commerce have been involved in discussions regarding this National Series event; however neither party were able to reach a mutually-acceptable agreement.

We are considering many venue options for a replacement event, and expect the location and dates to be announced shortly.

2018 Race Schedule & Rule Changes Officially Released

2018 Purse & Payout Announcement

The Lucas Oil Dragboat Racing Series announced today a total revision of the purse and payout structure, as well as event registration modifications.

In order to continue to promote the series at the highest level, it has become necessary to eliminate costly and non-funded incentive programs, such as “Winner’s Circle” and “Tow Pro” monies that were offered to specific classes under certain circumstances. Those who have pre-paid for the Diamond Club will receive a full refund. Payout will consist solely of the announced purse, which has been increased substantially! We are excited to announce that racers will be competing for a share of $100,000 per event! The payout for all classes is listed here.

Event registration incentives have also changed for 2018. Fees will not increase; however, the program has been modified to be more consistent with other racing series’ and organizations.

Pro Classes will receive, with their paid entry, a total of 6 (six) crew bands, one car pass, and one golf cart pass. Pro Class entries may purchase, at a discounted rate, up to 10 (ten) additional crew bands, plus one additional car pass and one additional cart pass.

Sportsman Classes will receive, with their paid entry, a total of 4 (four) crew bands, one car pass, and one golf cart pass. Pro Class entries may purchase, at a discounted rate, up to 6 (six) additional crew bands, plus one additional car pass and one additional cart pass.

ATTENTION RACERS: 2018 Racing Season

Ken and Patti Dollar, who have served as Director and Administrator of the Drag Boat Racing Series for the past 8 years; have announced their retirements, effective immediately. We thank them for their dedication, hard work and loyalty in building and maintaining a great program.

Paul Hosler, the Lucas Oil Products Safety & Regulatory Compliance Director and former National Drag Boat Rescue Director, has been appointed to administer the series. Racers are encouraged to call Paul Hosler or Bob Patison for answers to series-related questions or issues. Both can be reached at the Corporate Office at 800-342-2512.

Please be assured that Forrest Lucas and all of us here at Lucas Oil Products, Inc. are fully-committed to the Drag Boat Racing Series and its continued success. We are working non-stop with our partners at the National Jet Boat Association (NJBA) on 2018’s first National Series event in Bakersfield this coming April. This promises to be one of, if not the, largest drag boat races in decades. We hope to see you there!

Liquid VoodooScott Compton in Liquid Voodoo makes a 270 miles-per-hour qualifying run on Saturday at Lake Lucas during the Diamond Drag Boat Nationals. (Kenny Shaw photo)

Wheatland, Missouri (September 2, 2017) - Speed has always been Scott Compton's game, first as a dual-sport athlete running the football and sprinting in track. Later, he drove drag cars.

These days, Compton is a blur on the water as the pilot of the Tommy Thompson-Scott Palmer Top Fuel Hydro "Liquid Voodoo" with Saturday the pinnacle of his career. At least, thus far.

Compton zipped through a morning qualifying run with an elapsed time 3.4517 seconds and put a leg on the world record at 270.4543 miles-per-hour.

"I can't say enough about this team," Compton said after the run. "Scott Palmer and Tommy Thompson, we can't thank you enough."

On Sunday, Compton takes aim on a breakthrough first career Top Fuel victory, at the 7th annual Diamond Drag Boat Nationals.

Just one year ago, "Lake Lucas" was the site of Compton's first final-round appearance. Now he's chasing a third straight step-ladder final in a season that he says is "getting better and better as it goes on."

Compton is something of a "hometown" favorite because of the connection to Palmer, a veteran NHRA Top Fuel driver from Cassville, Mo. Palmer, who's competing at this weekend's NHRA U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis, got involved in the Lucas Oil Drag Boat Series as an owner a couple of years ago.

While Palmer had no desire to drive the boat himself, he found an aspiring candidate in Compton. A former drag-racer from O'Fallon, Ill., Compton had been helping out on Palmer's NHRA crew in spare time from his electrical contracting business.

The first year together on the drag-boat circuit was a challenging one as both learned the ropes of boat racing. But this year, with backing from boat-racing legend Tommy Thompson and the Liquid Voodoo has made big strides.

"I'm comfortable, but I don't know if you ever get used to it," he said of driving a Top Fuel Hydro, the water equivalent of a Top Fuel drag car. "The sensation is awesome. It's a pretty good adrenaline rush, I'll tell you. I love it."

The team entered this weekend fourth in Lucas Oil Drag Boat Series Top Fuel Hydro points. Like for Palmer in Indianapolis, this weekend is a big one for Compton and the boat team in Wheatland.

Less than 24 hours after Palmer ran a career-best in his car, going 328.54 mph, Compton and Liquid Voodoo delivered.

"He stays really involved," Compton said of Palmer. "He doesn't come around much because of his NHRA schedule. But he's on the phone constantly with us and is very supportive."

For Compton, a former standout football running back and sprint-relay runner at McKendree University in Lebanon, Ill., nothing would make him more proud than to give team Liquid Voodoo a Diamond Drag Boat Nationals title.

"I have confidence in myself and the team. I hope we can pull out our first win here this weekend," Compton said.

The finals could be something. Series points leader Bryan Sanders, the 2016 champ, also posted a 270 mph qualifying run on Friday in the Thompson-owned "Nitrochondriac." He came back on Saturday and went 266.
